Brewin’ Up Books Book Fest coming to Fort Collins, October 22nd.

In any given week you’ll find me frequenting at least one of the local breweries, stopping by Happy Lucky Tea House for a cuppa, and zipping into the downtown branch of the Poudre River Library District to pick up some new reads. So when business librarian Anne Macdonald told me about the Brewin’ Up Books Book Fest happening in Fort Collins on Saturday, October 22nd, I got pretty hopped up.

Imagine a crisp, gorgeous fall day in Old Town, listening and learning from writers and authors as they comment on their beer, coffee, and tea publications while you sip on warm beverages (or cold, if happy hour has begun).  Said festival organizer Mike Ligget, “This event mixes the community’s passion for books and literary arts and its love of craft brewing,” and will be held between 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. at a variety of venues throughout Old Town including Bas Bleu Theatre, Bean Cycle Roasters, Downtown Artery, Happy Lucky’s Teahouse, New Belgium Brewery, Old Firehouse Books, Old Town Library, Wolverine Farm Letterpress & Publick House.

Featured authors and presenters confirmed for the festival include Governor John Hickenlooper, who recently wrote The Opposite of Woe: A Life in Beer and Politics; poet and editor Katrina Roberts (Underdog);  New Belgium Brewing brew master Peter Bouckaert (Woods and Beers); and internationally recognized beer expert Horst Dornbusch (Prost! The Story of German Beer).

Thanks to the support of several area sponsors, the festival is free to the public, yet a ticket is required for entrance to one event. More information is available at www.FoCoBookFest.org, including information on registering for writing workshops and classes as well as how to pick up a free ticket to Governor Hickenlooper’s presentation “Beer and Politics” at Bas Bleu Theatre.

“We’re extremely excited about the range of guests joining our inaugural book fest,” says Anne Macdonald, festival cofounder and librarian at the Poudre River Public Library District. “It’s a testament to the vibrant literary culture in Fort Collins that we can attract such a talented group of authors.”

And I’m excited to live in a town where fun, enlightening events like this happen. Cheers!
