Why the In-between isn’t Always So Bad

We have all been there. You’ve just finished up one section of your life, and are waiting to embark on the next. You’ve tidied up all the loose ends from your last endeavor, you’ve begun planning for your next opportunity, maybe you’ve even done a little physical cleaning around your house/apartment to make way for the future. However, it seems the future is still some way off, so now you are faced with the waiting game. You are in the In-between.

We’ve all been there, some of us more often than others. It’s not a very fun place to be, especially when you feel pressure either internally or externally to continue on to the next section of your life. It can be frustrating and disheartening. Perhaps, after experiencing it once, you vow to avoid this In-between as much as possible from here on out. I understand, I do; being In-between periods of your life can be very frustrating, especially when they drag on. But it doesn’t have to be all bad! There are some things you can do in the In-between that you might not have the ability to do outside of it. So, for you, here are three reasons why the In-between isn’t always so bad.

  1. You can explore new opportunities. If you haven’t taken a class in a few years, the In-between presents a wonderful chance to explore some new passions. Many towns offer class opportunities through various civic centers, and one can usually find a list of classes online. To alleviate the sense of waiting during the In-between period, consider taking classes to explore new interests in your life and career. You never know what new passions you might uncover!
  2. You can do in-depth self-exploration. Similar to the above but more introspective in nature, the In-between gives you time to do some internal exploring. Consider taking up meditation, or journaling. Seek out someone to talk to about your internal thoughts. If you’re interested in doing career exploration alongside of your personal exploration, Career Solutions Group in Fort Collins can help you with that.
  3. You can focus your energies on the next step. Things in life don’t always go as smoothly as we may have hoped, and sometimes landing in the In-between just means you have to take more time setting up the next phase of your life. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing! Having more time and energy means you’ll be able to do a more comprehensive, thorough job of working towards this next goal.

The In-between is not fun, but it doesn’t have to be terrible. Use this time to explore new passions, and remind yourself of what the In-between is: a point between one moment of your life and the next. It won’t last forever, and you may even miss it once it’s gone.
