The Importance of LinkedIn Engagement

Last week we talked about how LinkedIn uses Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to “memorize” you actions, known as Affinity Actions, and the role that this plays in being found for specific search results and by hiring managers using specialized tools.

Today, I want to share how you can increase opportunities to be found by influencers and target companies using proactive strategies. To be successful with LinkedIn, one of the keys is activity and engagement. It is critical to build your network and communicate with those individuals. This however, does not mean just clicking on every name you see and gaining massive amounts of connections. Rather, it means being strategic in your approach. Here’s some tips:

  1. Invite people that are in your target industry. Consider reaching out to those with titles most likely in a position to make hiring decisions. Connect with like minded individuals doing what you love or want to do, peers, former co-workers, current contacts, people that you volunteer with and friends of friends to start.
  2. Follow companies and organizations of interest. In doing so, they will have an increased chance of seeing your content. It’s also imperative that you engage with their pages.
  3. Like posts from your connections, their connections and especially those of targeted employers. Even better, comment on these pages and try to open up conversations.
  4. Share your own content. One of the strengths of LinkedIn is that it gives you an opportunity to show your expertise. Be a thought leader and let people read for themselves what you can do. Just be sure to post content that is relative to your career search plans. Remember to always be positive, don’t cross socially acceptable boundaries and never share information that might be considered copyrighted or intellectual property for a business you currently or previously worked for.

Implementing these tips in to your career branding campaign can make a difference and increase your opportunities to find that perfect career you are searching for.
